Abstract

570,508. Work - holders. COCKING, W. C., and ROBERTS, A. G. Oct. 18, 1943, Nos. 17093 and 20446. [Class 83 (iii)] In an adjustable work clamp a T-head 1, Fig. 1, for engagement with a slot in a machine &c. table carries a pillar 2 on which a head 4, provided with a work-gripping screw 6, is adjustable by means of a toothed pawl 8 engaging teeth 3 on the pillar. The pawl is pivoted in a slot 7 on the head 4 by a pin 9 in the head passing through an inclined slot 10 in the pawl, and disengagement of the pawl during clamping is prevented by a recess 11 therein engaging a projection 12, on the head. In a modification, the head carries two pins 16, Fig. 4, engaging a vertical slot 14 in the pawl 13 when the latter is in the locking position, but capable of passing into horizontal branches 15 of the slot to permit disengagement. In a further modification, the pillar 2, Fig. 6, is hollow to receive a T -headed bolt 21 and is clamped in any angularly adjusted position by a nut 22 to secure its lateral foot 23 against the table 24. The clamping head 4 has its arm 5 carrying the screw 6 arranged near one end thereof so that it may be reversed on the pillar 2 to accommodate different sizes of work. The locking action of the pawl 17 is reversible ' when the head is turned end for end, by means of a pin 20 passing through a triangular slot 18 therein and one of the spaced pins 20' engaging a depression 19 on the outside of the pawl.
