Abstract

605,692. Linear-dimension gauge stands. WRIGHT, W. H. Jan. 3, 1946, No. 292. [Class 106 (ii)] A dial indicator stand comprises a base member 1, Figs. 1 and 2, a pedestal tube 6, slidably mounted on said base member, a split clamp member surrounding said pedestal tube and being rotatably and vertically adjustable thereon, and a carrier member adapted to carry the dial indicator and itself carried by said split clamp member in such a manner as to be rotatable about a horizontal axis and fixable in any position of rotation. The dial indicator 32 is adjustably carried by a rod 30 slidably adjustable in a tubular portion of a member 27 which is rotatable about the horizontal axis of a pin 28 holding it to a split clamp member 20. The split clamp member 20 is rotatable about the pedestal tube 6 but can be locked to a nut 17 which non-rotatably engages a screwed rod 11 inside the tube 6, so that rotation of the rod 11 by a handle 12 causes vertical movement of the clamp member 20. The rod 11 has a bearing collar 13 at its top end and at its lower end it has a control recess which bears on a ball 14 vertically adjustable by a screwed stop 15 and a backing screw 16. The nut 17 is provided with a shouldered projection 18 which passes through a longitudinal slot 10 in the tube 6 into a ring groove 19 inside the split clamp member 20, Figs. 2 and 3. The projection 18 is split, bored and tapped at 21 and a ball 22 backed by a grub screw 23 is inserted as shown to provide a good bearing fit between the projection 18 and the groove 19. The slide 2 on which the pedestal tube 6 is mounted can be locked in any position along the base 1 by a spring pin 3 engaging a groove 4 in the slide 2.
