Abstract

565,811. Two-part couplings. CANNING, R. B. Dec. 10, 1942, No. 17624. [Class 38 (i)] A conductor is connected to a tubular or apertured member by means of a divided plug having inclined surfaces by which it is expanded in tube or aperture by the action of a screw that serves also to secure the conductor to the plug. In one form, a flat conductor 7, Fig. 1, is secured on the upper face of the divided plug 2 by the head 5 of a screw, the stem 6 of which is threaded into a tapered nut 3 that co-operates with inclined inner surfaces on the plug parts 2 so as to expand the plug in the tubular conductor 1. A weatherproof cover 4 may be provided. For securing a stranded conductor, it may be provided with a ferrule .having an internal thread to fit a threaded stub on the head 5 of opposite hand to the thread 6. 'For use with an apertured flange such as the web 1, Fig. 3, of a rail, the parts of the plug 2 may have oblique abutting surfaces that slide laterally when a bolt 4 is tightened, a bond 3 being also clamped by the bolt. A pair of tubular conductors may be connected end to end by duplicating the construction of Fig. 1, the screw 6 having two threaded stems of opposite hand with a central hexagonal enlargement exposed between the two conductors.
