638,221. Pliers. MOOLENAARS, J. Oct. 17, 1947, No. 27885. Convention date, May 6, 1940. [Class 61 (ii)] A pair of pliers having one jaw 14 forming a supporting face and the other jaw 3 forming a groove concave in cross-section for closing, sealing, or sealing and marking seals of ductile sheet metal and comprising a plate provided with a tongue intended to be rolled up transversely round a cord or string, has one of its jaws spring-loaded in such a manner that the tongue of the seal to be rolled up is resiliently held between both jaws when the pliers are in open position. As shown in the Figure, the jaw 3 is made from one piece of steel, and includes a grooved grip 2, and has mounted thereabove a marking member 20. The jaw 3 is slidable within a holder 6 extending to form one arm 7 of the pliers and attached to the end of the jaw 3 is a link 12 which closes the jaw 3 by the pivotal movement of the second arm 8 of the pliers to which the link 12 is connected. Slidably mounted. on the jaw 3 and also slidable within the holder 6 is the jaw 14 which is urged towards the jaw 3 by a compression spring 15. The jaw 14 is located and guided in a slot 17 in the holder 6 by a pin 16 fixed in the jaw 14. In an alternative form, the jaw 3 is connected at its inner end directly to the arm 8, and the outer end of arm 8 is connected to the arm 7 by a link pivoted on arm 7 so that as the arms are closed the jaw 3 is drawn inwardly.
