Abstract

544,698. Riveting. ARTHUR, E. M. Feb. 1, 1941, Nos. 1353 and 4352. [Class 83 (iv)] A device for riveting up brake linings, articles to mud guards &c. is constructed in clamp form with one jaw carrying on interchangeable pin 3 for supporting the rivet head and the other jaw carrying a sleeve 7 for clamping together the parts to be riveted. The jaws are pivoted together and may be clamped by hand or by clamp 12 with screw 13 or a quick-acting cam. The pivot for the jaws may be adjustable at 11 or the sleeve 7 may have a screw mounting on the arm to provide for varying thicknesses of work. The sleeve 7 guides the set 8 adapted to be struck by a hammer and retained against loss by a grub screw 14 and slot. The set may have a lateral projection that can be engaged with an upstanding lug on the sleeve 7 so that the parts to be riveted may be hammered to close them initially.
