[Class 61 (iii)] In a device for removing a drill bit 45 &c. from a shaft 44 having jaws 3, 4 actuated by a pivoted cam anvil member 14 for gripping the shaft 44 and a slidable pusher member 22 operable against the bit &c. 45 by another anvil member 27, the latter also operates simultaneously one of the gripping jaws to intensify the grip on the part 44 whilst the part 45 is being removed by the pusher member. One clamping jaw 3 is actuated against the pressure of releasing springs 9 to grip the part 44 by the cam end 16 of the pivoted anvil. member 14. The other clamping jaw 4 has an inclined rear face 19 bearing against an inclined face of a recess in the jaw supporting bracket 18 and is engaged at one end by a spring 20 and at the other by a plunger 21 passing through an aperture in a distance piece 39 and contacting with an inclined surface on anvil member 27. Another incline 38 on the anvil 27 engages the pusher member 22. After striking the anvil member 14 to clamp the part 44, the second anvil member 27 is struck downwardly causing the plunger 21 to move the jaw 4 to the left and clamp the part 44 tighter and at the same time actuating the member 22 to push off the bit 45. The movement of the pusher 22 is limited by screws 25 and slots 26 and that of the anvil 27 by a shoulder 37 in the downward direction and plates 30 in the upward direction. The parts of the device subject to wear are hard chromium plated.
