Abstract

201,828. Clark, J. G. Nov. 2, 1922. Stapling.-A hand tool for use in opening out the two prongs of a staple by which tickets &c. are attached to textiles &c. comprises arms 3, 4, 5 hinged together after the manner of a pair of pliers and carrying jaws 1. 2. The jaw 1 is formed as a flat metal plate, and in the jaw 2 is mounted a slidable member 9 pressed forwardly by a spring 18 and carrying spring members 10 grooved at 11 to form a hinge for a pair of sheet metal flaps 13, which are constrained normally by the springs 10 to lie in ' V ' formation on either side of the jaw 2. In use, a ticket is attached to the goods to be marked and the flaps 13 entered between the prongs of the staple. On closing the handles 5 the flaps assume the position shown in Fig. 5 under pressure of the jaw 2, thus flattening out the prongs.
