634,173. Making electric discharge tubes; soldering. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Dec. 4, 1946, No. 35946. Convention date, Aug. 18, 1943. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XL (a)] In a method of exhausting and sealing a vessel having a wall at least partly of metal, such as an electric discharge tube, the walls of an exhaust opening 2 through the metal portion 1, comprises a fusible substance such as tin-solder 3, which after the exhaust process, is melted to seal the opening by an electric current in a circuit closed by pressing a movable metal body 5 against the fusible substance, or a part of the metal wall in its neighbourhood. As shown, the metal portion 1 is'the exhaust tube and locating lug of an electric discharge tube.
