Abstract

1455470 Metal-vapour-lamps PATENTTREUHAND - GESELLSCHAFT FUR ELEKTRISCHE GLUHLAMPEN mbH 13 June 1974 [14 June 1973] 26305/74 Heading H1D [Also in Division C1] Si and Al or Be and Al are added to a ductile amalgam-forming metal or alloy in a low pressure mercury vapour lamp to increase the workability of the metal or alloy, the addition being effected in such a manner that a solid solution is not formed at the temperature attained by the amalgam when the lamp is in operation. The ductile metal or alloy is preferably In or In alloy. The fluorescent lamp shown includes three portions 9, 12 and 13 of the amalgam-forming metal or alloy. A main portion 9 which determines the mercury vapour pressure in operation of the lamp is provided on the flare stem 4. Two portions 12 and 13 which facilitate the run-up of the lamp are provided respectively on the pinch 5 and on an annular sheet iron cap 10 surrounding the electrode coil 8. An example of a suitable composition consisting of In and an Al-Si solder is provided. (See Divisions C6-C7).
