450,274. Making vacuum apparatus for electric discharges. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., Electra House, Victoria Embankment, London, and BOYLAND, D. A., c/o General Electric Co., Ltd., Wembley, Middlesex. May 13, 1935, No. 14007. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] [See also Group XL] Welding.-A gas-tight joint between metal bodies, such as parts of the metallic envelope of an electric vacuum discharge device, comprises a washer of a metal other than iron, which is clamped between the opposing faces of the bodies and diffuses into the bodies by heat applied during the process of manufacture, without melting the washer. The parts may be of copper or silver or of iron, steel, or nickel-iron plated with copper or silver and the washer may consist of gold or silver preferably in the form of a welded wire ring. The joint is made at a temperature not less than 350‹ C. and not greater than 800‹ C. Specification 450,275 is referred to.
