Abstract

379,883. Scaling leading-in wires into vitreous envelopes. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitats Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) Sept. 29, 1931, No. 27129. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1930. [Class 39 (ii).] An electric current conductor 2, Fig. 1, of large cross-sectional area is sealed hermetically into a vessel 5 of glass or similar vitreous material by sealing a thin walled seamless metal tube 1 through the glass by fusion at a point 3, and passing through the tube the conductor 2 which is in the form of a metal rod of slightly smaller diameter than the bore of the tube and is welded to one of the extremities of the tube, the welding in the example being effected at the inner end 4 of the tube. In a modification the welded joint is avoided by forming the lower end of the metal tube 7, Fig. 2, into a solid conducting-rod 6 into which a metal rod 8 of smaller diameter than the bore of the tube is secured, as by screwing at 9. The tube may consist of any metal such as copper or iron which can be drawn into a seamless tube, a thin coating of chromium preferably being applied to protect it from chemical action. Specification 104,758, [Class 39 (ii), Electric lamps, Incandescent], is referred to.
