Abstract
474,138. Sealing leading-in conductors into metal envelopes. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 18, 1937, No. 8011. Convention date, March 18, 1936. [Class 36] In a leading-in conductor of the kind wherein a tubular insulator is provided at each end with a metal part connected thereto by glass or enamel flux or by soldering, one of the two metal parts being connected vacuum-tightly by soldering or welding with a metallic vessel wall and the other part similarly with the current conductor, the metal parts 6 at both ends of the tubular insulator 2 are formed with exterior flanges lying in transverse planes on the outside of the insulator and arranged so as to contact with correspondingly disposed flanges provided respectively on the current conductor 1 and on the outside of the vessel 4 into which the conductor is to be sealed. As shown, the lead-in conductor is adapted to be connected to the metal cap 1, for example by screwing, and the flange on the outside of the vessel 4 is provided on a metal intermediate member 3 which is secured to the vessel wall by soldering or welding at 5. The metal parts 6 are secured on the exterior wall of the insulator 2 by a glass or enamel flux or solder 7. The flanges on the members 1, 3 are pressed in the direction of the arrows 8, 9 upon the flanges of their respective metal parts 6 and then soldered or welded thereto.
