Abstract

490,333. Sealing metal to glass by heat. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Sept. 24, 1937, No. 25999. Convention date, April 14, 1937. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 25, 1938.] [Class 36] In a sealing-arrangement for electric discharge devices or vessels of the kind having a wall formed, at least in part, of metal, this' metal part being provided with a tubular neck through which an electrode supporting or current lead-in member or members pass into the vessel, a tubular lead-in conductor 8 which is sealed into the neck of the vessel 6 by a glass sealing-plug 7 comprises, at least in the part passing through the sealing-plug, a series of parallel elements extending longitudinally through the plug. In the example the parallel elements are formed by a number of longitudinal slots 10 in a solid walled tube 8. In a modification the metal tube is provided with short transverse slits at the extremities of longitudinal slits and the included metal bent to form a series of radially disposed fins which provide a tight connection with the glass plug. Alternatively, longitudinally extending wires disposed between the inner ends of two coaxial metal cylinders, are spaced to extend entirely around the circumferences of the cylinders, to which their ends are welded. The tubular lead-in member, after seating, may be divided at its ends into separate parts which are not electrically connected together and may form separate electrode supports. An axially arranged current leading-in rod 9 also is provided.
