Abstract

772,756. Soldering; welding by fusion. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 29, 1954 [Sept. 29, 1953], No. 28114/54. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXXVI] In joining two wires a ferrule is clamped around them and the wires are soldered &c, or welded over adjacent portions of their length, the ferrule being located between the joined portions and parts of the wires liable to be pulled apart and extending between the wires to separate and prevent electrolysis between them. A stranded copper wire 1 with a cut-away insulating cover 4 and an aluminium wire 2 are clamped by an aluminium ferrule formed from a rectangular piece of sheet as in Fig. 3. The parts 10, 11 of the wires 1, 2 extending beyond the ferrule are fused into a mass 12 which also includes some of the ferrule 6. When the ends 10, 11 are fused with added metal the ferrule is moved further from the ends. The walls 8, 9 of the ferrule forming piece are bent over the wires to separate them.
