Abstract
243,700. Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Miller, W. L.). Nov. 26, 1924, [Convention date]. Welded joints.-A joint between a flexible electric conductor and a rigid wire is made by stiffening the end of the flexible conductor by means of a metal ferrule, and then buttwelding it to the end of the wire. The stiff wire may be one of the leading-in wires 4, 5, 6 of a hotcathode rectifier, in which the anode 2 and the cathode 3 are supported by wires of tungsten or molybdenum sealed into a re-entrant part of the glass vessel 1. A ferrule 8 of nichrome may then be employed with a flexible conductor 7 of stranded copper. The joint may be made by percussive welding, the two wires being connected across a condenser &c., brought into contact, immediately separated to form an arc, and then brought together again with percussion. Soldered joints.-The joint may be strengthened by soldering additional metal 9, Fig. 4, around it.
