- the dimensioning corresponds to the pin 14.
- FIGs 5 and 6 corresponds to that of Figures 3 and 4 only with the difference that the annular groove, which forms the pin 18 on the outside of the center electrode, is expanded so that a whole segment apart from the center electrode 11 is lifted from the pin 18. I.e. there is no edge portion of the center electrode 11 coaxially surrounding the pin 18. A connecting wire 19 is welded onto the pin 18. The dimensioning corresponds to that of the pin 16.

Abstract
For the purpose of a welded connection between electrodes (2, 3, 4, 11, 12, 13) and connecting wires (6, 8, 15, 17, 19), preferably by long-term resistance welding of copper to copper, it is proposed to use the electrode surfaces to be connected to each protrude a pin (5,7,14,16,18) with a diameter of about nine tenths and a length of about six tenths of the lead wire diameter. The connecting wire (6, 8, 15, 17, 19) is then butt welded onto the end face of the pin (5, 7, 14, 16, 18).
Description
- a) die anzuschließenden Elektroden bestehen aus einem gut stromleitenden Werkstoff;
- a) the electrodes to be connected are made of a material that conducts electricity;
- b) The connection should be made to a wire made of a highly conductive material.
Powerful surge arresters must be able to discharge surge currents> 10 kA. In the case of double-line surge arresters, this means that a total current of> 20 kA flows through a common center electrode. Such high surge currents cause electrical contact connections to cause the contact material to spatter, thereby damaging the sockets. A better electrical connection for such currents is provided by soldered connecting wires, which are generally made of copper and then have a diameter of approximately 1 mm. Copper is also preferably chosen for the electrode material for electrical and economic reasons. The fixed connection between the electrode and the connecting wire can then be produced by soldering or welding.
Both are proposed for example in DE-OS 28 28 650. On the one hand, the possibility is described there of soldering a tubular rivet to the bottom of the cup-shaped electrode and then squeezing the connecting wire into the tubular rivet (FIG. 4). The other is for a sweat Connection provided to "press" a cylinder on the bottom of the cup-shaped electrode, the diameter of which is about 1.5 times the diameter of the connecting wire. The lead wire is butt welded onto this cylinder. This cylinder has the task of reducing heat dissipation during the welding process. Welding onto the smooth bottom of the electrode or onto the outer surface of a central electrode would not be possible with a material that is a good conductor of current and thus also a good conductor of heat, such as copper.
But even with such a dimensioned cylinder, a welded connection is only possible as a short-term weld, such as pulse resistance welding. But above all, this results in unreliable connections when connecting copper to copper.
The present invention has for its object to design the electrodes of a gas discharge surge arrester so that long-term resistance welding is possible, which can not only be produced with automatic welding machines for economic reasons but is also mechanically and electrically reliable.
- c) aus den anzuschließenden Elektroden ragt jeweils ein Zapfen hervor mit einem Durchmesser von etwa neun Zehntel und mit einer Länge von fünf bis acht, vorzugsweise sechs, Zehntel des Drahtdurchmessers;
- c) from each of the electrodes to be connected protrudes a pin with a diameter of about nine tenths and with a length of five to eight, preferably six, tenths of the wire diameter;
- d) the connecting wire end is butt welded onto the respective pin.
With this dimensioning, a reliable welded connection is possible, in particular with copper as a material with good current and heat conductivity for electrodes and connecting wires. The coordinated, reduced heat dissipation from the welding zone of the electrode achieves the uniformly high temperature required for the welding of both parts to be connected. The mechanical strength and electrical load-bearing capacity of the connection are guaranteed.
Basically, two configurations for the pin are possible. Either it is created directly during the manufacture of the electrode without machining by direct shaping, for example in an extrusion process, or it is formed after the manufacture of the electrode by machining, for example by milling.
According to another embodiment of the invention, a cup-shaped electrode with a thickened bottom protruding into the interior of the gas discharge surge arrester carries a peg on the bottom side in the interior of the bowl facing outwards. According to a further embodiment, in the case of a double-line surge arrester, an annular central electrode additionally carries a pin on at least one peripheral point on its outside.
