Abstract

484,555. Sealing leading - in conductors into vitreous vessels. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 15, 1937, No. 28098. Convention date, Oct. 15, 1936. [Class 36] In sealing a leading-in wire 2 to an electrode 3 into a vitreous vessel 1, the wire without the electrode attached to it is first sealed into a cylindrical vitreous body 5 which fits closely into an aperture in the wall of the vessel and is provided with a rim 7 on its outer edge. The electrode 3 is then attached to the end of the leading-in wire remote from the rim, and the body 5 is introduced into the aperture so that its rim 7 is adjacent to the edge 6 of the aperture, whereupon these adjacent parts are sealed together by a flame directed upon them. The wire 2, which is preferably of tungsten, is sealed into an aperture in the cylindrical body 5 by means of a glass 4. If the vessel 1 is made of quartz the parts 4, 5 consist of intermediate glass or glasses. Specification 425,928, [Group XL], is referred to.
