Abstract
476,602. Uniting metal to glass by heat. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., BREADNER, R. L., and GUTTRIDGE, E. J. June 8, 1936, No. 15991. [Class 36] In making sealed joints between glass and metals, such as copper, which are: (a) attacked by mercury vapour; (b) can be plated with nickel ; and (c) do not melt at the temperature at which the glass softens, the metal surface to which the glass is to adhere is coated with nickel before the members are sealed together in known manner by means of a flame. In an example wherein a glass tube is sealed to a copper cup, the interior of the cup is coated with nickel deposited electrolytically, and the glass tube is sealed to the inside of the rim. Specification 219,215, [Class 39 (i)], is referred to.
