Abstract

520,062. Uniting metal to vitreous material. EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI R.T. Dec. 9, 1938, No. 35963. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1937. [Class 36] [Also in Group XL] A metal base for electric, especially metal bulb, electric discharge tubes has a glass pump tube sealed inside a metal sleeve on the base plate and emerging therefrom to be sealed off in the usual way, the fused joint being on that side of the base which faces the bulb interior. In the form shown, the sleeve 2 has flanges 2a welded or soldered to the lower face of the base 1. The glass pump tube 4 is sealed at 3 to the inner and outer surfaces of the sleeve 2. The tube is later sealed off at 4a. The current leads 6 are mounted by means of their insulators 7 in metal sleeves 8. The sleeve 2 may be conical and the sleeves may be formed of chromium-iron alloy or nickel-chromium-iron alloy which are readily sealed to'glass. The base plate may be of the same metal or of the usual ferrous metal. The sleeve may be upset or drawn from the metal of the baseplate in known manner.
