Abstract
559,800. Uniting metal to vitreous material BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 19, 1943, No. 947. Convention date, Jan. 21, 1942. [Class 36] In constructing an evacuated electronic discharge device a stem press is built up in such a manner that the lead-in wires 62 are united to an evacuating tube 58 by means of a glass sleeve 60 which is placed around an enlarged tubular member 57 integral with tube 58 so as to enclose the wires 62. The tube 60 is heated uniformly by burners 64 so as to fuse it, and it is joined to the tube 57 by pressure if desired so as to seal the conductors 62 hermetically. A flare 67 is then fused on to the sleeve 60 either in the central position shown, or to the enlarged part c, Fig. 5, at the bottom of the sleeve. The flare is then built into an electronic discharge device of known kind. Specification 369,349, [Group XI], is referred to.
