Abstract

622,206. Grates; gas-producers. MARTIN, R. M. L. Nov. 16, 1945, No. 30853. Convention date, June 27. [Classes 51 (i) and 55 (i)], A grate, particularly for use in an inclined position, has air passages which are separated from one another and have restricted inlets so that the air meets the fuel with reduced velocity, the carrying of dust being thus avoided. The grate shown in Figs. 6 - 8, is formed of bars 8, shown as spaced to indicate that they are unfinished castings, the inlets 5 of the air passages leading to expansion chambers 6. The bars may be of ring form. In the application of the grate to a gas producer, Fig. 9, the air supply for combustion is preheated by being passed through pipes 16 in a member 15 which protects the gas outlet 14 from the descending fuel. Shutters 18 in the fuel shoots 19 separate the hopper 15A from the gasproducing space. Ashes are removed by a rake 13 working over a plate 12.
