Abstract

620,933. Two-part couplings. PARSONS, Ltd., C. H., and HANDLEY, G. B. Feb. 3, 1947, No. 3163. [Class 38 (i)] In a socket-coupling suitable for wall mounting, a pivoted shutter 13 normally covers the live rectangular socket contacts 10, 11. This shutter is actuated by a lever 17, which is pivoted at 18 and has, on one side of the pivot, a cranked portion 20 which enters the earthing socket 12, and an arm 19 with a pin which engages a slot in the shutter. On the other side of the pivot, the lever has a cranked portion 22 on which bears a spring 23 situated in a recess 26 in the socket base. When a plug is inserted, the earth pin engages the inclined edge 21 of the cranked portion 20, causing the lever to rock about its pivot and so turn the shutter to uncover the socket contacts 10, 11. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the earth pin and the spring act on the same end of the lever, whilst the shutter is actuated by the other end.
