Abstract

621,234. Two-part couplings. PARSONS, Ltd., C. H., and HANDLEY, G. B. Feb. 7, 1947, No. 3753. [Class 38 (i)] A socket of the type having a shutter 26 operated by means co-operating with the earth pin of a plug, comprises a porcelain base 1 recessed to receive current sockets 13, 14 and apertured at 19 to receive a U-shaped earthing socket 34. The shutter is.pivoted at 28 on an insulating piece 29 secured to the base and is operated by a lever 27 pivoted at 30 on the piece 29 and at one end to the shutter, the free end of the lever being bent at 32 to present a sloping earth pin engaging face opposite an extended arm 37 of the socket 34 and being urged to this position by a hairpin spring 43. The arm 37 may be formed separate from the socket which is secured in the base by the stem of a binding post 21 engaging a laterally extending portion 35 thereof. The underside of the base is recessed to receive an earthing strip 25 with which the pivot pin 30, the earthing socket and the spring 43 are in contact.
