Abstract
689,922. Two-part couplings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., GLEDHILL, H. B., and SYKES, N. A. Oct. 15, 1951 [Dec. 5, 1950], No. 29701/50. Class 38 (i). A socket contact comprises a pair of flat side members 1, 2 joined at one end to form a U-shaped portion with a depending tail, the free ends of the side members being bent to form lips 4, 5, and a U-shaped spring 6 inserted between the side members with its ends passed through holes 7 in the lips so as to urge them together, dimples 8 locating the spring in position. The side members may be separate, as shown, and welded or soldered together or they may be bent up from single strip. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown), more than one spring 6 is provided and the lower portions of the side members are secured in a slotted brass stem. A number of socket contacts as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 may be secured in rectangular apertures 10, Fig. 3, in an insulating body 9 to form a multiple contact socket, the ends 12 of the depending tails of the contacts being passed through slots 11 in the bottoms of the apertures and twisted to prevent their removal. Fig. 4 shows an alternative mounting of the contacts whereon they are held captive between the parts 13, 14 of a two-part body, each having rectangular apertures therein, those in the part 13 having contact pin entry apertures 19.
