Abstract

[Also in Division H2] In an electrical power point, a socket connector is located in a housing having a cover which is interlocked with a switch for the socket connector, so that a mating plug connector may be coupled with or uncoupled from the socket connector only when the switch is in its "off" condition. As shown, Fig. 1, a power point housing 1 comprises a pivoted cover 5 having adjacent its pivot line a projection 5a. The housing contains two socket connectors connected to a mains supply via a cable 3 and a switch, the manual actuator 4 of which projects through an aperture in the housing adjacent projection 5a. Opening cover 5 to insert or remove mating plugs causes projection 5a to move the actuator 4 into its "off" position. In a further embodiment, Fig. 10, a 13-amp socket (not shown) in a wall box is connected to a microswitch 29 having a spring-biased operating button 30, the box being closed by a pivoted cover having camming lugs 26 on the pivot line. When the cover is closed the microswitch may be switched on by a rocker member 27 which depresses and latches on to button 30. Opening the cover causes camming lugs 26 to depress a plate 32 against a spring 33, so moving microswitch 29 bodily out of range of rocker member 27 and preventing the operation of the microswitch.
