Abstract
612,862. Two-part couplings. BRITISH MECHANICAL PRODUCTIONS, Ltd., and SHOREY, L. W. May 31, 1946, No. 16663. [Class 38 (i)] In a socket of the type having a shutter operable by the earth pin of a plug, the shutter 6 is slidable in guides 7 moulded on the socket base 1 or a cover-plate therefore and is engaged by an arm 11 bent on one end of a spindle 12 located in a groove 14 in said base. The other end of the spindle is bent to form a cam surface 16 lying in a slot 17 in the wall of the earth socket 3, the latter and the live sockets 2 being of the type described in Specification 612,861. A spring wire 19 received in a groove in the undersurface of the base passes through a slot 20 at the base of the groove 14 and over a cranked portion 18 of the spindle 12, thus serving both to retain the spindle in its groove and to bias the shutter to the closed position. Alternatively, the shutter may be rotated by the shutter operating arm 11.
