Abstract
620,195. Vehicle suspensions. CRANE, J. L. B., and CHAPLIN, W. D. Jan. 7, 1947, No. 580. [Class 108 (ii)] The rear carriage of a road vehicle has eight wheels 2 in two rows, load being transferred from the wheels to a cross-shaft 6 through a laminated spring 10, which is placed under and fits into axle-carrying beams 3, 4 provided on opposite sides of the common shaft 6 and able to move relative both to the shaft and to each other. The shaft 6 is mounted in brackets 7 secured to a transverse chassis member 8 and carries pivotally the beams 3, 4, one of which fits between the prongs of the forked end of the other. The ends of the spring 10 rest in pockets 11, 12 integrally pressed in the ends of the beams 4, while the centre of the spring is shackled to the cross member 8 by bolts 13 which, however, take no part of the suspension load.
