Abstract

1284705 Tandem axles MACHIENBAU KNOTT EGGSTATT ING VALENTIN KNOTT 5 May 1971 [6 May 1970] 13146/71 Heading B7D In a tandem wheel axle arrangement, particularly for boat carrying trailers, swing axles 4 of half-shafts 1 on each side of the vehicle carry swing arms 5 and are mounted in rubber torsion spring bearings 2, 3 between which is independently mounted on each swing axle a sleeve 23 on separate rubber torsion spring bearings, the two sleeves on each side being coupled by a rod 25 pivotally attached to oppositely extending arms 24 of the sleeves 23. The axle bearings 2, 3 each comprise elements 18 having concentric metal sleeves 19, 20 vulcanized to an interposed rubber element 21. The inner sleeve 19 is bolted to the swing axle 4 and the outer sleeve 20 bolted or welded to a respective bearing 2, 3. The rubber elements 18 of the sleeves 23 are similar to those of the bearings 2, 3. The bearings 2, 3 may be attached by saddle brackets 11, or by bearing-plates (16), Fig. 4 (not shown), to the vehicle under-frame. Preferably, the sleeves 23, bearings 2, 3, swing arms 5 and brake drums 7 are composed of welded half-shells.
