Abstract
610,518. Motor-vehicle axles. ELECTROTUBE-SOLESMES. June 11, 1945, No. 14755. Convention date, Sept. 1, 1944. [Class 79 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXII] A vehicle is sprung on a rigid axle so that the suspension takes vertical thrusts only, longitudinal thrusts being taken by a pair of radius rods located on either side of the vehicle outside the chassis frame, and tranverse thrusts being taken by a transverse rod articulated at one end to the axle and at its other end to the frame, the longitudinal radius rods being attached to the frame at points level with the wheel axle. The longitudinal radius rods may each comprise a pair of rods in the form of a V articulated to the chassis at its apex and to the axle at the ends of its two arms, or each pair of rods may be replaced by a V- shaped member or by a flexible bar rigidly attached to the axle and to the frame. The suspension means work in compression and may comprise helical springs, rubber blocks, pneumatic or hydro-pneumatic devices and are interposed directly between the rigid axle and the chassis, or torsion bar springing may be used. The chassis frame 1, Figs. 1-3, is supported on the axle 6 by brackets 2, 3 and elastic suspension members 4, 5 working in compression. Longitudinal thrusts are taken by the V-shaped members 9, 10 located outside the chassis and pivotal thereto at 15, the ends of the arms 9, 10 being articulated at 13, 14 to the end of levers 7, 8 fast with the ends of the axle. Transverse thrusts are taken by rod 19 pivoted at one end 20 to the axle 6 and at its other end 22 to the chassis frame. Specifications 12978/08 and 14953/08, [both in Class 79], are referred to.
