Abstract
156,863. Perl, A. H. F. Sept. 26, 1919. Spring shackles. - In order to cushion shocks, more especially those in an horizontal or oblique direction, one or each end of a laminated spring for a vehicle e is connected pivotally or by a link or links s with a member arranged to slide on or with a rod between two fixed abutments under the action of resilient cushioning- means, the pressure on the sliding member in each direction being adjustable. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, the ends of the spring 10 are pivoted to blocks 1, 11 carried by sleeves 2 which slide on rods 3 mounted in brackets 4, 5 on the chassis, and springs 7<1>, 25 mounted on each side of the blocks are adjustable by nuts 4', 5<1>. The device may be duplicated at one or both ends of the spring 10 as shown in plan in Fig. 6. As shown in Fig. 4, the block 1 is fixed to the sliding rod 16, and the springs 17 are mounted in telescoping casings 18, 21, the casings 21 being adjustable on the rod 16. When applied to a cantilever spring suspension, the block 1 is connected by a link 13, Fig. 4, to the axle or free end of the spring. Fluid cushioning-devices may be used in place of springs, and one of each pair of the cushioning-springs may be made stronger than the other.
