Abstract

534,793. Vehicle suspensions. CLARKE, R. E., and NEAL & CO., Ltd., R. H. Dec. 21, 1939, No. 32668. [Class 108 (ii)] An articulated suspension for cranes and like hoisting vehicles which provide some spring cushioning when travelling and yet affords a rigid abutment when the vehicle is stationary and the crane functioning consists of a compensating beam 3 pivoted at its middle 4 to the chassis 5. The beam ends are connected by rigid rods 12 to a bracket 11 fitted to the top of trunnions 10 in which the road wheel axles 6 are mounted. The upper ends of the rods 12 are screw-threaded so as to be adjustable on block nuts 14 fitted with studs 15 engaging slots 9 in lugs 8 fixed to the ends of the beam 3. The nuts 14 are held in position by cotter pins 16, and these have to be removed and the nuts taken out of their slots when adjustment is to be made. One or two preferably semi-elliptic leaf springs 17 connect the trunnions 10 to the chassis 5.
