Abstract
222,116. Dubois, C. Sept. 18, 1923, [Convention date]. Springs, arrangement of.-A pair of oppositely arranged cylinders 1 pivotally mounted on a support 3 secured to the chassis enclose concentric cylinders 4 which are seated against conical shoulders in the outer cylinders and slide on rods 8 connected by ball joints 18 to a member 9 carried by a rod 10 secured to the axle of the vehicle. Springs 6, 7 mounted on each cylinder 4 abut at their outer ends against stops or flanges 11, 12 on the cylinder 4 and rod 8 respectively while their inner ends abut against a ring 5 free to slide upon the cylinder 4 and within the cylinder 1. The springs extend, when the axle moves away in either direction from its normal position relatively to the chassis and resist the return movement, the position taken up by the cylinders when the wheel drops into a depression in the road being shown in Fig. 5.
