Abstract

536,170. Road vehicle suspensions. GREAVES, R. Oct. 4, 1939, No. 27147. [Class 108 (ii)] The road wheels are mounted by means of pivoted arms the free ends of which are connected to compressive thrust means tending to move the arm to a dead centre in which the arm lies alongside the thrust means. As shown in Fig. 1 the wheel 11 is mounted on the arm 12 the free end 14 of which is acted upon by a thrust-link 16, pivoted at 15 to the chassis. The thrust-link may be under the influence of hydraulic or pneumatic devices, and as shown in Fig. 4, the arm 12 may be connected by a link 23 to the leaf spring 24 supported on a through axle. Fig. 7 shows a form in which the wheels 11 are carried on arms 31, 12 the latter having thrust-links 17 while in Fig. 9 the axle is mounted on a member 35 connected by pivoted links 36 to the chassis at 39 and a shackle 23 at 41, the links, which are adjustable in length, being surrounded by compression springs 37.
