Springs, arrangement of.-A spring suspension for road or railway vehicles comprises a main laminated bearing spring connected to the supporting or supported member and two pairs of articulated members jointed to the respective ends of the main spring and to the supported or supporing member by pivotal connections arranged substantially one above the other, the articulated members being associated with auxiliary springs and so arranged that they are normally inclined to each other but are gradually brought into substantial alignment under an increasing load, against the action of the auxiliary springs which are relieved of further stresses when the articulated members come into alignment. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1 for supporting the bolster b of a bogie, the spring a carrying the bolster is connected at its ends to bell-crank levers f, g having one of their arms connected by links h, i to the bogie frame k. The other arms of the levers f, g are adjustably connected to rods d, e which carry respectively an abutment d' and a cradle e<1> for an auxiliary spring c. This arrangement may be inverted, the spring a being carried by an axle and the links h, i connected to the frame. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the spring a<1> is carried by an axle n and is connected at each end to one of a pair of jointed links p, r the other of which is connected to a bracket s on the frame o. The common joint of the links is connected to a rod t carrying an adjustable abutment u. bearing against a spring c' which is seated against the bracket s.
