Abstract

293,712. Armstrong, F. G. G. March 9, 1927. Divided application. Springs, arrangement of.-A vehicle axle 1 is connected to that end of a radius rod 4 which is remote from the frame 6, the other end of the rod being rigidly connected to one end of a leaf spring 8 and pivoted to the frame at 5, and the other end of the spring being shackled to the frame. The spring lies above the axle. In addition, a rubber block 38, Fig. 4, mav be interposed between a plate 36 on the rod and a pad 37 on the frame, a further rubber block 39 being held against the opposite side of the plate 36 by bolts 40. A pivotal joint is provided between the radius rod and axle to prevent stresses in the axle when one wheel is raised without the other. A vibration clamper may be interposed between the radius rod and frame. A pair of superposed parallel radius rods may be used, and the spring may extend to or beyond the centre of the frame. The Provisional Specification describes an arrangement in which a leaf spring takes the place of the radius rod, the axle being situated above or below both springs or between the two and the springs being arranged longitudinally, transversely or obliquely.
