Abstract
496,035. Vehicle spring-suspensions. AUTO UNION AKT.-GES. June 13, 1938, Nos. 17571 and 17572. Convention dates, June 12 and Nov. 3. [Class 108 (ii)] In a motor vehicle spring-suspension of the kind in which a rigid axle 4 is resiliently supported from the chassis by means of pivoted links in combination with rubber elements 21 stressed in shear between supporting plates 19, 20, the links 10 extend transversely substantially at the level of the centre of gravity of the vehicle, while the rubber elements are disposed relatively to each other in a transverse plane with their planes of shear -substantially normal to such plane. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the rubber elements are inserted between the links 10 and the transverse frame member 16, the links 10 being of V-shape, one connected directly to a wheel-carrier 2 and the other connected through the intermediary of a link 12. One supporting plate 19 is pivoted to a link 10, while the other plate 20 is pivoted to the frame member 16. The plates 19 may be disposed vertically as shown, or they may be inclined vertically and outwardly or vertically and inwardly, or arranged horizontally, and one of the plates may be in contact with the link 10 or with a part of the chassis. In another construction, Fig. 6 (not shown), the rubber elements are interposed between the axle-carriers 2 and the frame. In a still further construction, Fig. 8, the rigid axle 4 is bent downwardly at its centre, while pairs of rubber blocks 21 are disposed between a plate 19 pivoted to the axle 4 and two plates 20 pivoted to the frame 16. Also, one pivot 13 had a sliding instead of a pivoted link connection with the carrier 2.
