Abstract

1444768 Vehicle suspensions B J CUNNINGTON 18 Sept 1973 43800/73 Heading B7D [Also in Division F2] A trailer suspension comprises an axle 18 received in apertures in rubber blocks 17 mounted in holders 14 attached to side members 12 of the trailer chassis 11, each block 17 having oval and triangular cut-outs 22, 23 below and above the axle 18 respectively so that the axle can move through a limited range with the parts of the block 17 at the sides of the axle acting in shear, and beyond that range the parts of the block above and below the block act in compression on bump and rebound respectively. The axle is laterally located with respect to the blocks 17 by washers 21 welded to the axle. The blocks may be bonded to the holders 14 and/or to the axle 18. In another embodiment each end of the axle carries a transverse plate member provided with two pins which extend parallel to the axle on each side thereof and are received in respective rubber blocks.
