Abstract

Radius and torque rods. - In a suspension for motor vehicles in which spiral springs are interposed between the axles and the chassis frame. each axle is connected to the frame at one side by a single radius rod and at the other side by a double or two-armed rod disposed so as to resist torque. As shown, the frame 5 is suspended beneath ths axles 2 by springs 3, 6 connected to cross-pieces 1 on the axles and lugs 4 on the frame. The front axle 2, Fig. 2, is connected to the frame at one side by a single radius rod, and at the other side by a two-armed rod 8 the arms of which are connected to the axle and to a rigid arm 9 thereon. The back axle 2, Fig. 3, is furnished with a similar arrangement except that the torque member comprises two rods 11, 12 pivoted to the brake-plate 10 or axle 2. The axles are also connected to the ends of the frame by adjustable tie-rods 14 furnished with springs 15.
