Abstract

223,005. Walsh, E. Y., and Walsh, E. A. Aug. 4, 1923. Addition to 219,752, [Class 103 (vi), Railway &c. vehicles, Undercarriages &c. details of]. Springs, arrangement of and mounting undercarriages on; equalizing load on springs.-The spring suspension for tramway vehicles described in the parent Specification is modified for application to ordinary road vehicles by mounting the levers to rock on pins carried by brackets attached to the axles. As shown in Fig. 3, the lever D, of inverted channel section, is carried by a pivot c in a bearing bracket C secured on the usual spring seating b of the axle B, the ends d of the lever being formed with cup-shaped seats to bear against spiral springs E, E<1> mounted on a bolt e<1> between cupped members e. The upper members e may be connected to the chassis by pins, knuckle joints, or shackles. In a modification, the springs E' are omitted and the bolt e<1> is secured to the chassis, or a pair of springs arranged side by side may be carried by a U-bolt at each end of the lever, the bolt being pivoted to the chassis. As shown in Fig. 5, a semielliptic spring E<2> secured to the chassis A is connected by shackles d<1> to the ends of the lever D. The Provisional Specificaton states that the levers may be bolted rigidly to the axles.
