Abstract

616,709. Fuel-injection pumps. BLAKEWAY, R. S. April 18, 1946, No. 12079. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1945. [Class 102 (i)] [Also in Group XXVII] In a fuel-injection pump, wherein the plunger is actuated by the cylinder compression pressure acting on a spring-pressed piston, means are provided to adjust the force of the spring on the piston and to regulate the amount of fuel injected. The plunger 61 is reciprocated by cylinder pressure acting through a pipe 14 on a piston 28 loaded by a spring 50 adjustable by raising or lowering an abutment plate 49 by means of a cylindrical rack 44 rotated by a worm 46, a second rack and pinion 72, 69 coacting with a hexagonal port 62 of the plunger to rotate it, adjusting the slant cut-off edge 67 controlling the pump delivery. The compression pressure in the pipe 14, controlled by a valve 15 which may be connected to a governor, acts first on a valve 29 carried by the piston 28 and then on the whole piston head, fuel delivery through a port 56 and conduit 57 to an injection nozzle 83 starting when the edge 67 cuts-off the fuel inlet port 54 and ceasing when a groove 65 connects the pressure release port 58 to the inlet port 54. When the plunger passes the outlet port 56 the remaining fuel escapes to the groove 65 through a conduit 68 which is sealed by a conical cushion valve 60 at the end of the stroke. The injection nozzle 83 has an adjustably spring loaded needle valve 85 and a vent conduit 80. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the modification described in Specification 624,843. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
