Abstract

603,600. Window frames. MALTHOUSE. E. G. Oct. 25, 1945, No. 28154. [Class 20‹(iii)] A window or like frame is made from a natural mastic asphalt with a limestone rock content moulded round a metal reinforcement. In the form shown, an L- section frame 10 comprises a rigid reinforcement 11 having holes 13 for bonding asphalt 12 thereto and further holes to receive screws 14 securing the frame to wooden plugs 16 in a pre-cast concrete surround 15. The reinforcement protrudes from the ashphalt to provide a hinge 17 for a bar 18 welded to the reinforcement 19 of the asphalt frame 20 of a movable light 21 having a reinforced asphalt centre T-bar 24. The reinforcements may be provided with other projections e.g. for latches and stays and may comprise strips, wires or bars welded together. In a modification, the asphalt is moulded round a cement core moulded round the reinforcement. In a method of moulding the frames, the reinforcement is pressed into the asphalt and the surfaces in contact with the mould are smoothed after removal and the corners rounded as shown at 38. According to the provisional specimen the mould may comprise a flat base and framing and block sections removably secured thereto.
