[Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A lintel for window, door, etc. openings comprises a lower part 61, Figs. 9 and 10, and an upper part 67, the two parts being separated by a layer 62 of lead or other damp-resistant material. A transverse cavity C extends through the part 67 and communicates at its ends with vertical holes H which communicate with the cavities 53 between the inner and outer walls 51, 52, which, as shown, are built up around a window frame 54. A mould for casting the lintel comprises (Figs. 1, 4 and 5) two sides 1, two ends 6, two adjustable locking-plates 11 for securing the ends and sides together, two cores 21, 22, and an adjustable base plate 41, Figs. 9 and 10. The lintel may be pre-cast, but as shown is cast in situ. In operation, the mould is mounted on the walls as shown in Fig. 9, the core 21 having its ends 23 (which form the lower part of the holes H) received between ribs 9 on the inside of the mould ends. The mould base 41 rests at its ends on the wall, and its centre is supported by struts 55, which may be telescopic or otherwise adjustable. The part 61 is then cast, the core 21 is removed, the lead etc. sheet 62 is laid over the surface of the part 61, the core 22 is inserted as shown in Fig. 10 (the parts 31 fitting, into the holes left by the core parts 23), and the upper part 67 is cast. The core 22 and the mould sides, ends and base are then removed, and the edges. 65, 66 of the lead layer turned down. To facilitate removal, the cores (and ribs 9) may be tapered.
