Classes 20(ii), 20(iv) and 87(i) A building unit comprises a wooden frame 1 covered on both sides with composite sheets 2, 3 of wood veneer 4, 5, 7, 8 and asbestos cement 6, 9. The vertical portions of the frame are formed with a corresponding tongue 10 and groove 11 and dowels 44 and holes 42, which are not in strict alignment but have chamfered ends to allow of interengagement. The unit may be filled with loose insulating material. The units are secured to a concrete foundation 38 by vertical rods 16 engaging grooves therein. Each rod has at its upper end a head 17 to engage recesses in the units or a screw-thread to receive a nut for attachment to a horizontal beam. Each unit rests on a foundation block 12 supported on the main foundation 38. The edges of the facing sheets 2, 3 may be cut away to receive waterproof cover strips.
