Abstract

587,764. Concrete building blocks. HAWES, A. H. Jan. 17, 1945, No. 1367. [Class 87 (i)] [Also in Group V] A building block comprises two members 20 connected by wire ties 22 each in the form of a rectangular frame, the wire being of square or other non-circular section which has been twisted about its axis to provide a helical formation which gives a better bond between the concrete and the wire. The ends 25 of the ties are bent outward to improve the keying action, and the horizontal limbs of the frame are offset at 47 as shown. There may be three members 20. The wire ties may be replaced by concrete webs, which may be tamped in the mould to a greater extent than the members 20. The members 20 may be joined by concrete at one end. Angle or corner blocks may be cast in the mould shown in Fig. 12, which gives at one end an L-shaped cavity and a recess 48<1> to accommodate the end of an adjacent block.
