Abstract
603,457. Auxiliary air valves. AUTAC, Inc. Aug. 23, 1945, No. 21589. Convention date, July 21, 1944. [Class 7 (ii)] A device for admitting additional air to the induction pipe between the throttle valve and the engine comprises a suction actuated valve 21 in a casing 15 having a valve guide portion 20 and the valve and the guide provide an air passageway which increases in size as the valve is moved by increasing engine suction. As shown, the valve has grooves 25 which increase in depth towards an air inlet opening 16. The valve has a seat 23 in the housing. As the valve is moved against a spring 34 by engine suction from the induction pipe transmitted through a bore 31, the air passageway increases in size due to the variation of depth of the grooves 25. The tension of the valve spring 32 can be varied by a member 28 which screws into the casing 15 and is held from rotation by a cap 42 having teeth engaging teeth on the casing. A spring 45 bearing against a collar 46 on the member 28 and the cap urges the cap against the casing. A groove 36 enables air to pass to the induction pipe when the valve is drawn up against the member 28. An air filter 18 may be provided. The valve is relatively heavy to reduce hunting.
