Abstract
In a method of making articles from copper base alloy containing over 1 per cent aluminium so as to inhibit defects incidental to the precipitation of impurities at annealing temperatures, the alloy, while the impurities are in a condition of suspended precipitability is subjected to cold mechanical working wherein it is drawn to reduce its cross-section to 50 per cent or less of its cross-section prior to drawing. The invention is described more particularly in connection with the manufacture of tubing from an alloy comprising 77 per cent copper, 2 per cent aluminium and 21 per cent zinc with 0.03 per cent arsenic and less than 1/2 per cent of impurities such as tin, lead, iron, silicon and magnesium.
