Abstract
595,236. Two-stroke engines. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, (Machinefabriek Geb. Stork & Co., N.V.). Oct. 7, 1941, No. 12957. [Classes 7 (ii), 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] In a two-stroke diesel engine cylinder, having scavenging ports 4 opened by the piston and one or more exhaust valves 5, one or more supercharging valves 6 are opened before the exhaust valves close. The valves 6 preferably each have a sliding piston-like extension 13, Fig. 4, with a portion between ports 14 constituting a baffle which swirls the incoming supercharging air. The ports 4 are preferably upwardly inclined and tangential to the cylinder to whirl the scavenging air.
