Abstract

594,669. Endless-chain conveyers. MAV OR & COULSON, Ltd., and THOMSON, J. Dec. 8, 1944, No. 24684. [Class 78(i)] In a chain conveyer in which the framework is made up of sections assembled endwise, each section comprising a substantially closed lower housing wherein the lower conveyer run travels and a trough superimposed on this housing for the upper conveyer run, the length of the conveyer is increased by introducing a section sidewise into the framework, one side of the housing of this section being openable to permit the entry of the undivided lower run of the conveyer chain, after which this side is closed. The Figures show the application to a scraperchain conveyer for use in coal mines having a receiving portion built-up of three sections, Fig. 2, each comprising a base component for the lower run of the conveyer consisting of a rectangular plate 19, Fig. 3, reduced in thickness at its edge 20 and provided with a flange 21, and an upper component, Fig. 5, consisting of a trough 22 having hinged side members 24 with flanges 26 which when the side members are vertical extend inwards and serve as a guard over the chains of the upper run 13, and a longitudinal flange 29 which forms one side of the lower housing. The plate 19 has strengthening and locating lugs 31 secured to the flange 21 whilst the trough has supporting webs 30 secured to its sides 23. To lengthen the conveyer, the chain tension is slackened, the upper run parted, the frame structure divided by disconnecting the connecting plates 32 of adjacent sections and the tail end part of the structure pulled back sufficiently to allow the insertion of a section. The plate 19 of the section to be added is now pushed in sidewise below the run 14 of the chain over the floor into the gap in the framework, and the trough component of this section with its sides 24 turned outwards as in Fig. 5. is now placed on top of the plate 19 so that the outermost lugs 31 fit snugly between the webs 30 to lock the components together. The additional chain length is now laid in the trough and connected-up, the sides 24 turned upwards to the position shown in Fig. 8, the.sections connected by bolting the plates 32 and the chain tension re-adjusted.
