The casing of a scraper conveyer is in sections having conveying and return compartments one above the other and is characterised by the provision of guides in the upper compartment which are spaced from the side walls to form a space in which the couplings for connecting the sections are located. The guides 11, Fig. 1, are spaced from the sides 1 of the casing by distance shims 14 and 15 and are secured by bolts 13. Sides 1 have lower flanges 2 supporting the pads 7 which support the scrapers 6 between chains 5. The casing is divided into lower and upper compartments by the plate 4 and wearing guides 2a are provided in the lower compartment. The sections are joined by oval links 17 encircling a pin 16 on each section disposed in the space between the guide and the side 1. A block 16a provided adjacent the pin on one section limits movement of the sections inwardly but link 17 allows some movement outwardly as indicated by the spaces S. The lower flanges 2 are joined at intervals by ribs 3 one of which, Fig. 2, extends across the joint between sections and is straddled by guide pieces 22 to guide the scraper over the joint since pads 7 will be unsupported if a gap occurs. The plates 4 overlap at the joints. A U-shaped cover 18 extends along one side of the casing and is supported by pillars 19 gripped in the space between guide 11 and the side 1. Cables, etc. 21 are housed within the cover 18. In Figs. 4 and 5 the two compartments of the casing are separate shapes, the medial plate 4a being integral with the upper sides 1a. The upper and lower compartments are joined by links 24 pivoted on pins 23 between guide 11 and the side 1a. The sections are joined by a U-shaped member 17a instead of an oval link.
