Abstract

706,223. Endless-belt conveyers. CABLE BELT, Ltd. Jan. 19, 1953 [Oct. 23, 1951], No. 24749/51. Class 78(1). In a belt conveyer of the kind in which the belt is provided with cross bars or straps which at their ends have means for engaging endless supporting and driving cables, the said cable engaging means comprises a head mounted on the end of the cross-bar or strap consisting of a pair of metal side members between which are mounted so as to lie respectively in front of and behind the cross-bar or strap in the direction of movement of the conveyer, two blocks having grooves to receive the cable at least one of the metal side members being formed so as to allow egress on that side from the cavity between the blocks of pieces of material which lodge or tend to lodge in the cavity. As shown, the head 10 includes a tube 14 which fits over the end of a cross strap 11 and. has a plate 15 which is welded to it, the tube passing through a rectangular slot in the plate. A bar 16 is welded to the end of the tube and to each end of this bar is welded a plate 17. Blocks. 18 of rubber, fibre, wood or similar material are secured by split pins 19 between the plates 16, 17 on opposite sides of the tube 14, each block being formed with two grooves 21 for engaging the cable 13. Coal or other material from the conveyer belt which becomes lodged in the space between the blocks 18 falls out over the bar 16. Specifications 641,817, 641,854 and 664,947 are referred to.
